KU Band Satellite

Does anyone else here use a KU band dish setup to grab news from all over the world?

It is pretty neat what you can do with "free to air" satellite.

I spent 300$ for my WineGuard dish (about 36") and my DVR/ LNB. Now I can record live feeds from the news vans...and ALL of the major cities locals via "spot beams".

These make great off the grid solutions if you can hookup a small solar rig.

I've even heard some guys that I know, picking up the live video feeds from Predator drones here in the states. The drones use KU feeds for video/audio uplink. Pretty neat what a "blind scan" will allow you to see.

Just a thought for those who have never heard of "FTA".

I got the Wineguard dish off Ebay, and my LNBs off ebay. http://www.gosatellite.com/ has some good FTA boxes to shop around for.

Yes. You can get D1sh and B3V if you have the latest Keys or a set-top that does "autoroll".

If you do something like this, is there anyway to still order pay-per-views? I usually don't miss UFC events unless I watch them at a friends home.

You can probably get the direct feeds. Or if all else fails find a local bar or a friend's place to watch.

thanks for the sat links guys

holy mackerel, there's a lot to learn about satellites. If anyone has any more good links, please post.

Is there a consensus about which HD receiver is the best bang for the buck? What is the difference between LNBs? Why would you want one over another?

exactly...it pays for itself very quick.

I'm working on getting a 13" TV and power this rig via SOLAR. Can you say "off the grid communications"...should the SHTF.

A great investment TPTB dont want you to know about.
